FilmOffaly: Offaly County Council

FilmOffaly is a film commission run by Offaly County Council in partnership with the Irish Film Board. Since 2008, FilmOffaly has successfully attracted feature films, TV dramas, short films and documentaries into the county by promoting its locations, providing a one stop shop for industry requests, funding short films and encouraging local business to offer discounts while productions are on location.

FilmOffaly is run through the Arts Office, with support from a board made up of elected members and expertise from the local film industry. FilmOffaly/Filmbase Short Film Award winning films have won awards at the Galway Film Fleadh and Belfast Film Festival and been selected for film festivals internationally.

The project has successfully recorded both the economic and creative impacts of increased film activity in the county; indigenous film companies are working to an increasingly high and award winning standard, the local economy is benefitting from visiting crews and audiences for film are developing through FilmOffaly’s sister project the OFFline Film Festival who have a strong youth and community programme, as well as a growing reputation with the industry.

In 2014 Brendan Gleeson endorsed FilmOffaly with a special piece to camera:
