Co. LYT: Limerick City and County Council
The County Limerick Youth Theatre is an ensemble set up in 1996 for young people living near Lough Gur, Co. Limerick to enjoy drama and related activities through participation in theatrical performance, workshops, games and improvisations. It also gives instruction, enhances skills and supports the personal and social development of young people in an enjoyable, safe environment in which members can learn and thrive.
The County Limerick Youth Theatre runs three mixed gender groups:
The Co. LYT for young people aged between 13-18yrs, The DynaLyts for sixteen children aged 7-12 and The Leading Lyts educational drama training for young adults. The groups meet weekly at the Honeyfitz Theatre in LoughGur in rural East County Limerick in an area of geographical isolation. The Youth Theatre is fully committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of its members. Our code of conduct incorporates the concept of friendship, respect for others and always participating with the right spirit. The County Limerick Youth Theatre is committed to ensuring that experiences are positive and enjoyable, irrespective of gender, ability, social class or ethnic background.
We are a member of NAYD the National Association for Youth Drama and our membership allows us access to other youth theatre events under the Go See YT scheme and special skills workshops as well as national festivals, the young critics programme, The National Youth Theatre and other events.
The organisation also has extensive experience of European collaboration on projects, creating theatre, film and TIE work with European partners.
