County Carlow Youth Theatre – Carlow County Council
County Carlow Youth Theatre is an initiative of Carlow County Council Arts Office in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland and NAYD.
“It seems to me that people have vast potential. Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don’t. They sit in front of the telly and treat life as if it goes on forever”, Philip Adams
County Carlow Youth Theatre (CCYT) was established in 2001 and continues to flourish as the years roll by. Led and facilitated by experienced Youth Theatre Leaders this year will see over seventy young people from across county Carlow take part in the youth theatre programme. CCYT creates theatre that is exciting, fun and accessible to all. Practical weekly workshops explore the different mediums of theatre covering many different areas of theatre such as:
- Acting and Improvisation
- Movement and physical theatre
- Rehearsals
- Directing
- Writing
- Team-work and confidence
Drama for young people is widely recognised as a practical way of engaging young people in a creative environment. Taking part in youth drama is seen as a great confidence booster and a positive form of social outlet and self expression. Drama is renowned for improving social and personal skills as well as providing a safe environment in which young people can express themselves, without the fear of ‘slagging’. This potential and undoubted benefit of drama for young people is recognised in Carlow through County Carlow Youth Theatre.
