Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 18.02.09Mayo County Council has been collecting art for many years and has now acquired a substantial collection of almost 250 works. In 2006 Mayo County Council Arts Office selected 16 artworks from the collection to curate two exhibitions especially for use in primary schools. The Schools’ Exhibition Loan Scheme allows a school to borrow one of these exhibitions for a school term.

The exhibitions contain artworks in a variety of media including oil, mixed-media, batik, etching, print and acrylics.

Artists included in the exhibition are from Mayo or have spent time working in the county and include John Albert Duigenan, Margaret Duffy, Irene Hegarty, Mary Lavelle Burke, Margo McNulty, John Laurence Speight, Amanda McMahon, Deirdre Walsh, Marianne Heemskerk, Irma van Baalen, Bernie Garvey O’ Mara, Margaret Morrison, Irene Hegarty and Anthony Pilbro.

Each exhibition is accompanied by a resource pack for teachers and an educational pack for students. Where possible, schools are encouraged to invite an artist from the exhibition to visit the school during the exhibition period.
